The Four Quarters was, or perhaps is, a cult dedicated to the infamous diabolist Devostas. Devostas had mastered dark magics, supposedly hundreds or thousands of moons before Strahd came to power. He was captured and sentenced to death by being drawn and quartered. Despite being ripped apart into pieces, his power was so strong that he didn’t die.

It’s unknown what happened to Devostas after this. However, what is known is that gained a cult-like following in the years since his refusal to die. After Strahd’s rise to power and the surrounding of Barovia by the mists, the The Four Quarters cult has appeared a few different times, as people hope to master the ability to withstand death as a means of escaping through the mists and out of Barovia completely.
